Going Down the Hole

Before I get ahead of myself, a quick recap of my 2026 half-assed resolutions:

2026 Best Intentions

  1. Write more. That should be easy enough if I just force myself to choose a topic
  2. Get something going on the Net Yaroze. I've had one of these since the program was active, but never really achieved anything. I recently took my Atari STE off my desk for a bit to get it set up again, and my intention is to get something 3D on the screen using only what I had available at the time. I've got Code Warrior running under Windows 2000 on an old PC, I've dug out the reference manuals and I'm getting stuck in
  3. Make some kind of progress with the Honda - ideally strip the engine down at a minimum

Progress

  1. Actually kinda done that, just not here. I got side tracked a bit, bought an old HP mini PC and threw FreeBSD on it. Then I set about learning a little about ZFS (holy shit that is a cool file system) and FreeBSD's Jails, and then got Gophernicus up and running. LLMs are destroying the web, and while I'll continue to keep this site online, I've wanted to host a gemini capsule and/or gopher hole for a while now. Haven't got gemini up yet, but I do have a gopher hole going and I'm writing there a bit. So that counts I think?

  2. I got something running! I put in some effort at the start of the year, got 3D models knocked up in Blender and on the screen, and then the PC I was using for development (a PIII running Windows 2000) died on me, which side-tracked me a bit and killed my momentum. But I do plan to get back to it shortly, and will write up little more detail soon.

  3. The engine is half stripped down. So half the minimum. Close!
